The RJ45 - What It Is And How It Works
Is there a more useful or exciting piece of kit on the market than the RJ45? Well... erm... yes there probably is. Okay so it's not glamorous and it's not particularly thrilling but it is a very useful item. So what is RJ45 and what purpose does it serve?
In short the RJ45 is the bit of plastic that goes on the end of a telecommunications or computer networking cable so that it can be connected to an application. It is the bit of plastic that plugs your telephone cable into your telephone...
Ethernet Networking Product
Ethernet networking products are used to split, switch, boost, or direct packets of information along a network. Products include media converters, switches, routers, multiplexers, SFP transceivers and GBIC transceivers. Media converters change the signal of encoded data from one media type to another as it is transmitted through, or between, networks. Switches connect network devices to host computers and allow a large number of devices to share a limited number of ports. Routers are protocol-dependent network equipment that connects sub-networks. Often, ethernet networking equipment is defined by its protocol or port type (ethernet switch, router).
LAN Cable
Ethernet cable assemblies are designed to support Ethernet, a standard protocol for the connection of computers in a local area network (LAN). There are many different types of Ethernet cables. Choices include 10Base-T, 10/100Base-TX, and 1000Base-TX. 10/100Base-TX also adheres to this popular Fast Ethernet standard from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). 1000Base-T complies with IEEE 802.3ab, a standard which defines 1 Gb/s data transfers over distances up to 100 m.
